Peterlin Picks Up 4th Straight Hibbing Raceway Challenge Series Victory

For Immediate Release – August 31st, 2024

The 2024 season for the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star kicked off Labor Day Shootout weekend at the Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, Minnesota and local driver Kyle Peterlin took the lead on lap nine and after a brief battle with Travis Budisalovich for a lap, Peterlin blasted away from the field leading the final 31 circuits to lead to the checkered flag for the $3,000 victory, which was his fourth straight Challenge Series victory at the Hibbing Raceway dating back to July of 2023.

Harry Hanson started the night by setting fast time with a lap of 13.591 seconds around the tight oval, while Kyle Peterlin, Tyler Peterson, Jeff Massingill and Travis Budisalovich topped the four qualifying heat races early in the night’s program. Harry Hanson won the b-main.

Peterlin and Budisalovich earned the front row for the night’s 40-lap, $3,000-to-win feature event with Travis getting the upper hand on the initial start from the pole and leading the field into turn number one on the opening circuit.

Budisalovich lead the first nine laps until Peterlin was able to work the bottom line to perfection and slip by into the lead off turn four. The field then began to migrate to the bottom groove and rode single file until Jeff Provinzino clipped an infield tire on lap 33, bringing out the first caution of the night as he slowed with damage to the front end of his a#0 car. On the restart, Peterlin took back off into the lead and ran away from the field for his third straight Challenge Series win at his home track.

Peterson finished second with Jeff Massingill third. Fourth went to Ryan Mikkelson with Derek Vesel rounding out the top five. Danny Vang, Joel Bennett, Cole Searing, Kevin Burdick and Rick Niemi rounded out the top ten finishers.

Mikey Blevins won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, while Shane Sabraski drove off with the WISSOTA Super Stock feature win. Bob Broking won the Modified feature and Justin Schelitzche won the Hornet main event to cap off the night.
