Bio

1991 - The first year we decided to get into racing we went to the races (1990) and watched other drivers and then went out into the pits and visited with them. We got a lot of ideas and information from a variety of people. Then that fall (1990) we started a partnership with Rick Johnson. We bought a 1978 Cutlass and started from the ground up. It took quite a while to get the car done. Our first race was May 19, 1991 in Hallock, MN. We were just going to go there until the new track in Greenbush, MN opened, but we were doing so good that we decided to stay. We ended up 1st in Midseason Track Championship Greenbush Race Park, 1st in Points Greenbush Race Park and 2nd in Points at the Kittson County Race Track (Hallock). Rick did the driving end of the deal and Art did the pit crew end. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot this year.
1992 - Art decided to go solo for 1992. We picked the number 27 because that was Art’s age at the time. We bought another 1978 Cutlass and started from the ground up. Art had driven only once the year before and that was in the heat only. We raced in Greenbush (all the time), Grand Forks, Hallock, Hamilton and Langdon (once in a while). We ended up 3rd in points in Greenbush. Street Class was fun but we decided at the end of the year to advance to the Modified Class.
1993 - Our first Modified was a 1992 Pro Chassis. Art went partnership with Loren Wellen. Loren raced the street class in Greenbush before. He had the number 0 and we had the number 27 so we combined the numbers and like the number 20 so that was our new number. We raced at Glyndon, Langdon, Hamilton and Greenbush. Loren did the racing in Greenbush and finished 4th in points. Art raced in Hamilton and finished 2nd in points and got the award of “Rookie of the Year”, we also finished 2nd at Midseason Track Championship Hamilton Speedway. This was another learning experience. We had a lot of fun learning the ropes of the WISSOTA class.
1994 - Art bought out Loren and went solo this year too. (We kept the same car.) We raced full time in Greenbush and Hamilton. We finished 2nd in points at both tracks. We also go 2nd in Track Championship at Greenbush Race Park. We enjoyed racing the Modified but decided to try another new adventure. So we sold the Modified.
1995 - We decided to start a new adventure in our racing program. We got to know Kevin Braget over the racing years and Art asked if he would be interested in building a racecar. He took on the challenge and it was worth it. We got 1st in Midseason Track Championship at the Hamilton Speedway, 1st in the Fair Week Special Hamilton Speedway, 1st in Track Championship Hamilton Speedway, 2nd in Track Championship Greenbush Race Park, 10th in National Points, 1st in Points Greenbush Race Park, and 1st in Points at the Hamilton Speedway. This was quite an exciting year for our race program.
1996 - For 1996 we kept the same car that Art and Kevin had built in 1995. We raced at Hamilton, Greenbush, and Winnipeg, MB (Canada). We got 2nd in the Track Championship at Hamilton Speedway, 1st at the Kittson County Fair Special (Hallock), 1st in Points at the Hamilton Speedway, 1st in Points at the Greenbush Race Park. We went to the WISSOTA 100 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI we got 5th in the heat & 16th in B-Main.
1997 - The Super Stock class was exciting but Art felt the need for speed. So we went to Ashland, WI and bought a 1997 Cobra car. We finished 3rd in Points at the Greenbush Race Park, and we got 1st in the Modified Special at the Greenbush Race Park.
1998 - Art decided that we needed to get a different look. So we changed the color and the number of the car. We finished 2nd in points at the Greenbush Race Park, we got 2nd in the Midseason Track Championship, and 2nd in the Track Championship. This was our last year of racing. Art hurt his back and now we are starting another new adventure by promoting the Rocket Speedway (formerly known as the Kittson County Speedway).
2000-2005 - We ran Rocket Speedway for 6 seasons. We learned what happened on the other side of the track. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun.
2008 - Our son started racing in the Pure Stock class. He raced off and on through 2016 with Art taking the wheel once in a while. In 2014 Art and Nick both had their own car.

Career Highlights

1993 - Rookie of the Year (Hamilton Speedway) the first year in a Modified. 1995 - Won the points at Greenbush Race Park and Hamilton Speedway, also finished 10th in National Points. 1996 - Won the points at Greenbush Race Park and Hamilton Speedway.
