Revenge draw will set lineup for AFCO ROC races at 100

The AFCO Race of Champions events, which will be held at the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 this September at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota, will again utilize a twisted lineup format for the specialty races on Thursday and Friday nights.

The WISSOTA-sanctioned Late Models, Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds will run their AFCO Race of Champions events on Thursday, September 15, while the Modifieds, Super Stocks and Mod Fours will run theirs on Friday night, September 16.

During the 2016 racing season, each member track of the PolyDome Dirt Track Series held an AFCO Race of Champions Qualifier night and the winner of each of the WISSOTA-sanctioned features on that qualifying night earned a starting spot in the AFCO Race of Champions during the WISSOTA 100 weekend.

If the track’s ROC Qualifier night rained out, the track had a scheduled rain date to hold their event, and if that event succumbed to weather, the track’s 2016 track champions became their Race of Champions qualifier.

Several provisional starters are also allowed to participate in the Races of Champions, including previous WISSOTA 100 Champions, previous WISSOTA National Champions, etc.

Drivers who have qualified for their respective AFCO Race of Champions event will gather on the frontstretch prior to the start of their ROC race and each driver will be asked to draw a number for a starting position, with a thrilling twist! The drivers will, one by one, be called onto the stage to draw a number, but the number they draw they will need to give away to one of their competitors; that will be where the competitor starts the race!

This “revenge draw” format adds some intrigue to the event and adds a twist to see what driver will give a potential front row starting spot to his good friend or most bitter rival. This format will allow for fan interaction as well, as the fans will be allowed to urge each driver as to who they should give their number away to. The drivers love having hundreds of fans down on the tarmac with them as they go through the revenge draw. Started in 2015, it was a ton of fun for both the racers and the fans who came down out of the grandstand to see it happen live and up close.
