Wissota Late Model Challenge Series

6th Challenge Series Title For John Kaanta!

John Kaanta of Elk Mound, WI secured his 6th Shaw Trucking WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series on Labor Day Weekend at the Hibbing Raceway. Kaanta had a slim 12 point lead over Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, WI going into the final weekend of series competition. Saturday nights event resulted in Redetzke finishing 15th and Kaanta gaining 12 points with a 2nd place finish. Both Saturday and Sunday nights shows had the 2 drivers in the same heat race which made for some real excitement. On Sunday the points spread was 24 points and Redetzke charged from 7th to 3rd in the heat race trying to reel in the 85 car. Kaanta finished 2nd behind Jeff Wildung of Nassau, MN who would end up 3rd in series points. The Feature race was a good one as Redetzke pulled the pole position in the MyRacePass Redraw and started up front. As fate would have it Kaanta drew the number 2 and started outside of row number 1 making for a wild finish to the Shaw Trucking Challenge Series. Redetzke was the Out Pace Racing Products Half Way Leader, but shortly after that Kaanta was able to make the pass and go on to win the $3,000 payday and secure the Shaw Trucking Challenge Series title which payed an additional $10,000 to win. Along with the payday, Kaanta secured a spot in the AFCO Race of Champions race at the WISSOTA 100 in Huron, SD and will also be awarded 5 bonus WISSOTA National Points.
