WISSOTA Unveils New National Points Structure

Sauk Rapids, MN (April 24, 2018) – Once the 2018 season starts we will see the unveiling of the new point system in WISSOTA Auto Racing.

“The new system will make the great racing seen in 2017 even better going into 2018,” WISSOTA associate executive director Carson Gramm said. “I’m proud that our promoters were able to deliver a system that will continue to prove itself each week of the season. Our common goal of strengthening WISSOTA Auto Racing, and its member tracks has become evident in this change.”

The annual meeting of WISSOTA gives stakeholders the opportunity to make changes in our organization through a vote. The ultimate goal of WISSOTA is to enhance safe and competitive dirt track racing through the unified policies and procedures enacted through the democratic environment experienced at the WISSOTA Annual Meeting each November.

The first winner of the 2018 season in any WISSOTA division has the capabilities of receiving of maximum of 112 national points. The points race will see quick changes in the competitive environment that each WISSOTA race exhibits. There are no changes to the show up points or number of shows that are calculated into the national point totals for drivers. With some tracks starting as much as a month later than expected, we can expect to see the tightest points race to date.

The 2018 Wollak Construction WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series presented by QA1 will have 20 events, and will use the national point system to determine the champion. One unique thing about the series is that they use passing points to determine the line ups. A driver accumulates passing points throughout the entire event, and these passing points of 2.25 are added to their total.

“In years past the heat races were not necessarily a good indicator as to the performance of a driver in the challenge series, but with the new system the 2018 Wollak Construction WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series presented by QA1 will have points that better reflect the drivers’ performances throughout the event,” WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series director Craig Sullivan added.

WISSOTA Auto Racing is dedicated to continuing to provide safe and successful dirt track racing through the unified rules, policies, and procedures that our member tracks and promoters vote on annually.
