Peterson powers to third straight WISSOTA Late Model national title
For the third consecutive year, the WISSOTA Late Model National Championship has resided in Hickson, North Dakota. Tyler Peterson entered the world of WISSOTA Late Model racing in 2023, and no driver other than him has claimed the top honors since. Peterson claimed the 2023 title over Chad Becker by 19 points, then topped the charts again in 2024 by 16 points over Dustin Strand and Shane Sabraski, who tied for second and this year, for the third year in a row earned national championship honors, this year by 25 markers over Strand, who ended up second in the point standings for the second year in a row.
As mentioned, 29-year-old Peterson ended up with a 25-point margin over runner-up Dustin Strand in the final Late Model 2025 season standings, capping his third straight Late Model national title and fifth straight WISSOTA championship. With 21 victories in his 80 starts between the two cars, for the second week in a row, Peterson finished inside the top ten a whopping 62 nights and ran inside the top five on 50 occasions, proving not only was he fast all season long, but he was consistent as well night in and night out.
After Tyler’s back-to-back WISSOTA Late Model national titles in 2023 and 2024, he didn’t slow down at all in 2025 as he picked up his fifth consecutive national title and third straight in the Late Model division at the conclusion of the season in mid-October.

Tyler has been racing for 15 seasons, with his first 4 spent in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division, before he moved into the WISSOTA Modified class, where he has been a driving force ever since and just completed his third season behind the wheel of his WISSOTA Late Model.
Notable wins for Peterson this season included winning in the Late Models during the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at the Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grade, AZ back in January, which was Tyler’s 200th career victory, plus racing from 17th to win at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND; winning twice on Labor Day week at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND and at the Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD, winning in his Modified at River Cities as part of John Seitz Memorial weekend and winning the Late Model portion of the Stock Car Stampede at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND, but the biggest win of Tyler’s 2025 season was becoming a day to his newborn daughter Sierra this season.
When asked what it means to win his third straight Late Model National Championship, Tyler said ‘I never dreamt of winning one, let alone 5, 5 in a row. It’s been a helluva journey, and I’m ready to go after a couple more.’
Tyler plans to keep doing what he does as the 2026 season rolls around as he looks to race his Late Model and Modified as often as possible, win as often as possible and try to keep his national championship streak alive and go for his sixth in a row at season’s end.
Congrats to Tyler and his team!

The WISSOTA Promoters Association exists to benefit its member tracks to enhance safe, profitable and successful dirt track racing, through unified, cost-effective rules, policies and procedures enacted within a democratic environment.
The WISSOTA Promoters Association was founded in 1981 by eight track promoters in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with an intent to offer uniform rules for the promoters and drivers involved in the Late Model division. Soon, the group decided to do the same for the growing Modified division.
In 1984 a voluntary steering committee was formed to oversee the business aspects that developed and to guide the future of WISSOTA’s racing divisions. That steering committee evolved into a board of directors, and the non-profit racing organization became incorporated in 1986.
