Driver Spotlight-Mitch Kieber
Our next driver in the WISSOTA Driver Spotlight series is Mitch Kieber. The Midwest Modified racer originally called Michigan home but now races out of Rhinelander, Wisconsin!
What is your home track?
ABC Raceway
What’s been your most memorable race or win so far?
2021 Northern Nationals weekend
What’s one lesson racing has taught you that applies to life?
Have patience
What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
I don’t eat after noon. If I do, I’m uncomfortable in the car all night.
What’s your favorite non-racing hobby?
Making Maple Syrup, working on projects around my property, and watching racing.
If you had an unlimited budget, what would you race and why?
I would race 2 plus nights a week in either a Midwest Modified or a Modified.
One fun fact about you that fans would be surprised to know?
I have a size 15 shoe!
What is your favorite race track food?
ABC Raceway walking taco. Otherwise whatever is left after I get over to the grandstands.
What is the story behind your car number?
It was a number that my dad had raced in memory of his friend. It became my number in high school football, so it was only fitting to run this number my first year racing.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about racing?
It’s just cars turning left.
What was the biggest misconception you had about racing before you started?
The amount of actual work that goes into just racing one night a week. Let alone the guys that run multiple cars, multiple nights a week!
What advice would you give to a new driver just starting out?
Listen to the advice of a mentor. Know that it’s not always going to be easy.
What WISSOTA event do you most want to win?
Any of them!
What’s one thing you wish every fan understood about drivers?
The amount of work that we put into our cars.
Please tell us your favorite racing story?
The third night of the 2021 Northern Nationals. I missed making the show by a bumper to a guy that had a lot more seat time and money into his car than I. Overall that weekend was my best run in a Midwest Modified since moving up!
